Agriculture and Civility - Expect More Civil Unrest Due to Rising Wheat Prices in the Middle East

It has been said that the stability of a nation is only a couple of meals away from chaos, yes, even in the most stable of countries, ours included. Okay so, let's talk about the Arab Spring, and the potential challenges of the heat of an Arab Summer. It's not just about freedom, or politics, indeed, it's also about food and economics, perhaps even more so. You see, it's easy to forgive a little when the supply chains are flowing with abundance, but when they stop, the sentiment can change in an instant.

You may not realize this but North African nations, specifically Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia import lots of wheat. In Tunisia and Algeria for instance they import about 465 to 480 pounds on average per person. Egypt is not far behind with about 410 pounds per person, and please consider the huge population there. Iraq also imports a lot of wheat about 290 lbs. per person per year, and prices keep skyrocketing and $8 a bushel may not be the upper limit.

What about Libya? Good question. Okay so, according to "Food Crisis and Global Land Grab" Online there is an article titled; "Libya eyes new investment in foreign farmland" which was published on February 9, 2011 which stated; "the state-owned Libyan Foreign Investment Company (Lafico) has set up a company dedicated to investment in agricultural projects abroad, said Ali Arhouma who heads Libya's Grain Production Authority. The purpose of the company is to ensure food security, he said.

"There are attempts to plant wheat in Ukraine, Turkey, Argentina and Brazil."

Well that was back in February, but considering what's happened since then, plus the drought situation in Europe, and extremely fast and rapidly growing prices, along with the Libyan Treasury monetary seizures on the international markets things are not looking so good for those who may be hungry, no not Hungarian, come on this is serious. And let's not forget the prediction of prolonged and future droughts in Europe and the wheat shortages world-wide, these are huge problems. Oh, you aren't aware of the world-wide wheat issues.

Well, there was very interesting article in Bloomberg on May 18, 2011 titled "Wheat at Risk Across Europe from Driest Weather in Decades," by Rudy Ruitenberg (editors: Stuart Wallace, John Deane). Go read that article and then, consider if you will all of these issues coming into focus this summer in an Arab nation-state near you. Worried yet? I am, for humanity's sake that is. Please consider all this.

  1. I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
liver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
